Join Julie Deffense of Julie Deffense Artistry at USFMS’s Culinary Innovation Lab in Lakewood Ranch for a fun-filled afternoon decorating your own rainbow colored, candy-covered edible gingerbread house! Learn how to make the edible royal-icing glue, and let your inner artist shine! All materials included during this 3 hour workshop. Take your creation home with you and share with your family and friends!

Enjoy a complementary drink and something sweet made by Julie during the workshop!

Note: One gingerbread house per person; children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

The event is open to the public and will take place from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Tickets are $65 and include a glass of Prosecco and a delicious sweets specially prepared by Julie Deffense, cookbook author and leading luxury cake designer of Portugal.

Fee includes one gingerbread house per ticket.

Join Julie Deffense of Julie Deffense Artistry for a fun-filled evening creating and decorating your own edible ornaments! During the workshop you will make your very own personalized photo cookie ornaments, decorated cookies, royal icing snowflakes and more! Take your creations home with you and share with your family and friends!

Workshop requirements:

*** PLEASE NOTE:

  • In order to make the photo cookies, each participant must send 12 photos via email or WeTransfer to Julie no later than Tuesday, November 28th (one week before the event). 

  • Photos should be of good quality, in .png, .jpg or .tif format. 

  • Color photos will be converted to black and white for the workshop.

Each ticket is for one (1) person only. Must be at least 10 years old. The event is open to the public and will take place from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Festive Mardi Gras Cake Decorating Workshop

Join Julie Deffense of Julie Deffense Artistry at USF Culinary Innovation Lab's beautiful facilities in Lakewood Ranch, FL for a two-day course and learn how to make her beautiful Venetian Carnaval cake, originally featured in 2013 in Portugal's most popular cake design magazine, Faça Fácil Cake Design.

From the basics to the intricate details, during this course you will learn multiple techniques using gum paste, fondant and royal icing, as well as handpainting your cake.

Course will be from 10am to 6pm, Saturday January 13th and Sunday January 14th. Casual coffee breaks will be served (included) during the day. Class will break for lunch and students are welcome to bring their lunch or go out (there are a variety of restaurants and cafes on Main St.).

Upon completion of project, students will receive a certificate from Julie Deffense Artistry.

Places are limited to 15 and tickets based on availability. Tickets are per person and are $600 + tax.

Join Julie Deffense from Julie Deffense Artistry for a two day advanced gum paste class. Julie will be teaching several gum paste flower techniques including the Oriental Peony, Parrot Tulip, Rose, Hydrangea, and filler buds. Students will also be learning lace and over-piping in royal icing to design an elegant wedding cake. Flower arrangement and color choices will be discussed.
